Our Research
Our funding priorities address cancers with the lowest survival rate, life after cancer and outcome disparities. We fund research in three main areas:
Hard-to-Treat Cancers.
Thanks to the groundbreaking work of researchers, more kids are surviving cancer than ever before. But some cancers still have very low survival rates. CCRF invests in research focused on finding effective treatments for these aggressive and relapsed cancers.
Survivorship Research.
There are half a million childhood cancer survivors in the U.S.; and more than 95% will face a significant health issue related to the treatment they received. CCRF invests in research aimed at ensuring that kids who survive cancer can live longer and healthier lives. We believe that kids with cancer should not just survive, but thrive.
Eliminating Health Disparities.
Children from underserved or socially disadvantaged communities are less likely to survive cancer – even when they receive the same treatment at the same hospitals. CCRF is one of the only funders supporting research on breakthrough interventions to help all kids survive.
Children’s Cancer Research Fund began with a single act of generosity. In 1979, 13-year-old Katie Hageboeck donated her bike savings to a small fund at the University of Minnesota before losing her life to leukemia. That gift launched what is now CCRF – a national nonprofit organization that has invested more than $235 million in research, education, and quality-of-life programs for children with cancer.
